Scheduling a Counseling or Evaluation Appointment
Evening Appointments Available:
I do have some evening appointments available. I can also sometimes schedule during the lunch hour. Please call and we can discuss what appointment times work best for you.
Insurances: I take insurances
I currently take insurances and EAP's (Employee Assistant Programs). I can discuss with you the discounts you will receive since I am a
"Preferred Provider" currently for almost all insurances and EAP's. As a
"Preferred Provider" for your insurance, your deductible and co-payments will be less, thus saving you money.
How long are the sessions typically?
If you are using your insurance, the length of sessions is controlled by the insurance companies. Sessions for the last 19 years of my practice have always been 50 minutes, called "the 50 minute hour." However, with changes in health care insurance, this changed in 2013.
If you are using your insurance, most insurances limit the counseling sessions to a maximum of 45 minutes and do not cover longer sessions. There are a few exceptions however that still allow longer sessions such as 50 minutes, or even up to an hour. It depends on your insurance and your policy. Please call me to help clarify your coverage, how much your sessions will cost, and how long your sessions will be.
Some clients either do not have insurances or do not want to use their insurance and want to pay a fee-for-service. That is fine and can be discussed.
Fee-for-service clients sometimes arrange longer sessions if they find it helpful, since they are not limited by the insurance policies. For example, a 45 minute couple's therapy appointment can feel rushed, and it's not uncommon for fee-for-service clients to schedule 60-75 minute appointments for marital or family therapy. This can often make the sessions more productive, and result in fewer sessions needed overall.
