My Approach to Counseling
I provide a compassionate and active problem solving approach to people's concerns. I teach a variety of coping and empowerment skills which clients can practice in their day-to-day lives. I use
cognitive (i.e. You have to change your thinking to change your life) and
behavioral (i.e. You have to change your behavior to change your life) techniques.
I teach coping skills and various techniques so that people can interpret their life experiences more positively, take control of their lives, and move closer to obtaining their life goals. I also teach several original communication techniques which can help strengthen marriages or resolve problems with one's boss or co-workers. Stress management and anger management are also available.
I'm mostly interested in
practical and positive psychology and how people can resolve conflicts, learn to cope and overcome adversity, and develop themselves so that they can live the life they imagine. I teach people to recognize their strengths and true potential, and help them live up to that potential by expressing their gifts and talents.
I also have observed over the years that in order for people to be successful in meeting their life goals, they must take responsibility for their life, their behavior, and their circumstances. By accepting and "owning" the problem, people are empowered to do something new to change their lives. Contrarily, not taking responsibility, blame, and excuses typically keep people stuck in the same place in their lives. One way that Psychotherapy/Counseling can be empowering is that the process helps people to take responsibility in their lives, and helps them make the changes they want in life.
